Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY)

Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) was founded in 1995 to raise awareness of conditions that can sudden cardiac death in young people.  It is estimated that every week in the UK at least 12 young people die suddenly from undiagnosed heart conditions.  CRY works with cardiologists and family doctors to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young by establishing good practice and screening facilities devoted to significantly reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death throughout the UK.  CRY operates an extensive Cardiac Screening Service throughout the UK.

Michael is a Patron of CRY, he works with CRY's Northern Ireland representative John Lundy. John's son Aaron died in 1999 aged 19 from Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome, a cardiac condition. Since then John has been working with CRY to promote Screening and Cardiac Awareness in Northern Ireland. Michael and Aaron competed together as schoolboy golfers.

Clic Sargent @ The Irish Open 2012

Michael was pleased to be able to help raise some of the £100,000 donated to Clic Sargent during the Irish Open, held at Royal Portrush Golf Club in 2012.  An unknown benefactor paid £6,000 for Chris McKeown, a young man supported by Clic Sargent, to have the opportunity to caddy for Michael in the Pro-Am on Wednesday.

"It's really nice to be able to do things like this because sometimes you don't realise that we're fortunate to be out here playing, able-bodied, and it puts in perspective playing with someone like Chrissy.

"He's very chilled out; he didn't know much about golf before today so we've been teaching him a bit more today and Owen [Craig, Hoey's caddie] has been great because he has had personal experience with cancer so we're both just really appreciating being able to give something back, and to raise £6,000 from it is brilliant."

Clic Sargent @ The NI Open 2013

Michael is pleased to be supporting Clic Sargent again at this years NI Challenge Open, to be held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club from the 26th August 2013.
