Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY)
Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) was founded in 1995 to raise
awareness of conditions that can sudden cardiac death in young
people. It is estimated that every week in the UK at least 12
young people die suddenly from undiagnosed heart conditions.
CRY works with cardiologists and family doctors to promote and
protect the cardiac health of our young by establishing good
practice and screening facilities devoted to significantly reduce
the frequency of young sudden cardiac death throughout the
UK. CRY operates an extensive Cardiac Screening Service
throughout the UK.
Michael is a Patron of CRY, he works with CRY's Northern Ireland
representative John Lundy. John's son Aaron died in 1999 aged 19
from Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome, a cardiac condition. Since
then John has been working with CRY to promote Screening and
Cardiac Awareness in Northern Ireland. Michael and Aaron competed
together as schoolboy golfers.
Clic Sargent @ The Irish Open 2012
Michael was pleased to be able to help raise some of the
£100,000 donated to Clic Sargent during the Irish Open,
held at Royal Portrush Golf Club in 2012. An unknown
benefactor paid £6,000 for Chris McKeown, a young man
supported by Clic Sargent, to have the opportunity to caddy for
Michael in the Pro-Am on Wednesday.
"It's really nice to be able to do things like this because
sometimes you don't realise that we're fortunate to be out here
playing, able-bodied, and it puts in perspective playing with
someone like Chrissy.
"He's very chilled out; he didn't know much about golf before
today so we've been teaching him a bit more today and Owen [Craig,
Hoey's caddie] has been great because he has had personal
experience with cancer so we're both just really appreciating being
able to give something back, and to raise £6,000 from it is

Michael is pleased to be supporting Clic Sargent again at this
years NI Challenge Open, to be held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club
from the 26th August 2013.
